Awning fitment

What awning fits a Ford Transit (MK8, 2014 on)?

Ford Transit panel van

On a Ford Transit MK8 the awning to fit is the roof-mounted Fiamma F80S, on the van-specific RHD bracket for your roof height and wheelbase. With a roof rack the wall-mounted F45S is fitted instead. Sizes by wheelbase below.

Have you got a roof rack fitted?

An aftermarket roof rack or roof bars, the kind you'd carry gear or a board on. It changes which awning mounts to your van.

LWBFiamma F80S 340cm →on the van-specific roof bracketFiamma F45S 350cm →

Sizes are the fit for each wheelbase. The awning length is set by the van's side run, so the roof-mounted and wall-mounted awnings take the same size for the same van. Aero roof bars need a bracket matched to your bars.

Four kits, two questions

On the MK8 Transit the kit comes down to roof height and wheelbase: H2 medium or H3 high, then L2, L3 or L4. There is a specific RHD adapter for each combination, and the kit reference on our Transit bracket page lists all four with prices.

The size quirk worth knowing

The Transit has one oddity that catches people out: the H3 high roof L3 takes a 320cm awning, which is shorter than the 340cm the H2 medium roof L3 takes. The roofline changes the usable run, so do not assume a taller van takes a longer awning. The Fit Finder handles this automatically.

Right-hand drive matters on this van

Fiamma make separate left and right-hand-drive adapters for the Transit, and fitting the wrong one puts the awning on the road side instead of the kerb side. Every Transit kit we list is the UK right-hand-drive version. The adapters mount along the factory fixing points under the roof caps; as with any roof fitting, your fitter confirms the points are sound before loading them.

With a roof rack

A rack-fitted Transit moves to the wall-mounted F45S on a bar adapter, the same pattern as every van here. The Fit Finder asks the rack question first for exactly this reason.

About the Fiamma F80S

The roof-mounted, low-profile Fiamma. It sits above door height and suits high-roof panel vans (Sprinter, Crafter, Ducato) with no clean side-wall fixing line. Sizes 290 to 450cm in Polar White, Titanium or Deep Black. Royal Grey or Royal Blue canopy (Deep Black is Royal Grey only). It needs a van-specific bracket kit, which the Fit Finder has already matched for you above.

Common questions

Do I need a bracket kit for a Fiamma F80S?

Yes, always. The F80S does not fit any van without a van-specific bracket kit, bought separately. The Fit Finder has confirmed the exact part for your van above.

Can I fit a Fiamma F80S myself?

Yes, if you are a confident self-builder, but it is a two-person job to lift the awning onto the roof, and any roof drilling must be sealed properly. If you are not sure about the roof fixing, use an installer.

What is the difference between the F80S and the F45?

The F80S is roof-mounted; the F45 range is wall-mounted. Roof mounting suits vans with no clean side-wall fixing line and places the awning above door height.

Is the F80S manual or electric?

It comes with a hand crank for manual wind-out. Fiamma sells an optional electric motor kit that can be added later, and the awning is ready for optional LED lighting on the lead bar and rear casing.

Ford Transit awning FAQs

What size awning does a Ford Transit take?

It depends on roof height as well as wheelbase. On the medium roof it is 290cm for the L2 and 340cm for the L3. On the high roof it is 320cm for the L3 and 400cm for the L4. On a roof rack the wall-mounted F45S is 300cm, 350cm or 400cm.

Do I need a bracket for a Transit awning?

Yes for the roof-mounted F80S, and the Transit uses a different kit for each roof height and wheelbase combination. The Fit Finder picks the right one. On a roof rack the wall-mounted F45S uses a bar adapter instead.

Why does my high-roof Transit take a shorter awning?

Because the roofline, not the wheelbase alone, sets the usable run. On the same L3 body the high roof takes 320cm where the medium roof takes 340cm. It catches people out regularly, so it is worth checking rather than assuming a taller van takes more awning.

Does a Transit awning need drilling?

On the roof-mounted F80S the adapters bolt to the factory fixing points under the roof caps, so no new holes go into the van. Your fitter checks those points are sound before loading them.

Does it matter that my Transit is right-hand drive?

It matters a lot on this van. Fiamma make separate left and right-hand-drive adapters, and the wrong one puts your awning on the road side instead of the kerb side. Everything we list for the Transit is the UK right-hand-drive version.
