What it is
The Fiamma F45S is a wall-mounted (side-mounted) wind-out awning. It fixes to the body panel down the side of the van — not the roof, like the F80S — and winds out to give a shaded, sheltered area alongside the van.
The case is a tree-resistant aluminium extrusion, and the canopy is a washable, waterproof vinyl. Because it screws into the side wall rather than the roof, it fits almost any flat-sided van, which is why it is the classic choice for the VW Transporter and smaller campers.
Ten sizes cover everything from a compact van (190cm, 1.7m² of shade) up to the longest builds (450cm, 10.8m²), in Polar White, Titanium or Deep Black — the in-between 325cm is made in Deep Black only. Royal Grey canopy throughout.
It is operated with the supplied hand crank. It is the proven, long-running Fiamma side awning — simple, quick to set up and easy to live with.
Why we sell it
For flat-sided vans and anyone who wants a proven, fit-almost-anywhere side awning, the F45S is the one we point people toward.
- Wall-mounted fits almost any van. A side-wall fixing works on the majority of flat-sided vans without a van-specific roof bracket kit, and it is the easier-to-reach option on very tall roofs.
- The VW Transporter default. It is the go-to awning for the Transporter and smaller campers — the sizes and fixing line suit them perfectly.
- Washable vinyl canopy. A van awning gets dirty. Waterproof vinyl wipes and washes clean; an acrylic canopy does not.
Get the length right for your van and it is the kind of upgrade you fit once and stop thinking about.
Choosing your awning
- Length. Measure your van's clear side-wall fixing length first. As a guide, 260cm suits a SWB VW Transporter and 300cm the LWB; longer vans step up through 350–450cm. The awning must not overhang past the back of the van or foul the sliding door track.
- Case colour. Polar White is the classic look and the lightest in heat. Titanium is the mid grey-silver, a quieter alternative to black. Deep Black disappears against a dark or grey van.
- Fabric. One fabric across the range: Royal Grey — the neutral striped canopy that hides marks and suits every case colour.
- Mounting. On most flat-sided vans the F45S fixes straight to the side wall with the supplied brackets. For a roof-rack or awkward-panel mount you may need Fiamma adapter feet — ask us if you are unsure.

Fitting it
- Side-wall fixing line. The F45S fixes to a straight run down the side wall of the van. Most flat-sided vans take it directly with the supplied brackets; a roof-rack or awkward panel may need Fiamma adapter feet.
- Panel strength and sealing. The fixing points must land on sound panel or reinforcement, and any penetration is sealed properly. A leak is the worst-case mistake.
- It is a two-person lift. Weight ranges from 11.5kg (190cm) up to 29.5kg (450cm) — the longer sizes are not a solo job to offer up to the van.
- Tension and wind. For overnight or windy use, add a Fiamma Tie-Down Kit; for heavy rain, a Rafter accessory stops the canopy pooling water.
None of this is beyond a methodical self-builder with a helper for the lift, but if drilling the side panel is a step too far, a local installer will fit a supplied awning in a few hours.

How it compares
vs Fiamma F80S
The Fiamma F80S is roof-mounted and low-profile, which suits high-roof panel vans (Sprinter, Crafter, Ducato) with no clean side-wall fixing line. The F45S is wall/side-mounted — it fits almost any van and is the go-to for the VW Transporter and smaller, flat-sided campers, plus the easier-to-reach choice on very tall roofs. Their sizes overlap, so on a big van either can work — choose on where your van takes the fixing, not just its size.
vs Thule Omnistor 5200
The closest premium wall-mount rival. The Thule is well regarded and generally quieter in wind; it is also pricier. The F45S is the value-to-quality pick and the more widely fitted awning on UK campers.
